Where a bass standsEdit

In a string orchestra, basses sit behind the cello. There aren't any basses in front of the director like other instruments, but like the violas, they're surprisingly indispensable. Most of the time, basses share the same notes or similar notes with the cellos. Some time basses share with the violins! Or violas. Occasionally, they will have solos, that are deep and rich. If one were to remove the bass, the orchestra wouldn't sound right. It would be missing something. All of the instruments are important.
